Eero Yrjö-Koskinen is the Secretary General of the Finnish Network for Sustainable Mining, a platform for cooperation between the mining industry and its key stakeholders. During the past few years, the network has produced new sustainability standards for mining and exploration, as well as a toolbox for local actions, which provides practical information on how to consult and involve landowners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders before starting operations in the field. The preparatory work has now been finalised and the mining companies are currently in the process of implementing the new instruments in practice. All the documents have been translated into English, and they are freely available from the following address: www.kaivosvastuu.fi/in-english/.
Eero has previously worked as the Executive Director of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, the largest environmental NGO in Finland. In addition, he worked for over ten years at the European Parliament in Brussels and the United Nations in Bolivia. He holds a Masters degree from Social Sciences. He is married and has two adult children.
